I Believe In Us... #athousandreasonstobelieve
In my years as a campus student, I’ve never witnessed any lady vie for presidency in a campus election and win. In fact they are not even considered right from the nomination process. It’s like the campus constitution in its own unique way has placed ladies as second fiddles in top leadership positions. No campus in Kenya has a special reserved room to accommodate a chairlady its always assumed that the chair will always be a man a good example is MMUST even the room belonging to the chair is located in the male hostels, how do you expect a lady to even think of vying for presidency with such restrictions. To cover it up a new idea has been fed in our minds by offering ladies sympathetical votes position which are second place. Take a look at JKUAT the vice chair is reserved for the ladies why cant it be the other way round. With this idea no lady would dare vie for the chair because they already see themselves only guaranteed to get into power by playing second fiddle.
There is a way that society has shaped our minds to believe in male leadership a lady who will stand and compete will never receive any support from the comrades in most cases propaganda will even be the downfall of these ladies. Some will even give the excuse of the campaign conditions Hello that is why sport shoes and trousers were evented. I’m thinking ukivaa hzo snikkers na trouser hakuna lorry ya campaign utashindwa kupanda.
If I look at the great women who are hailed in this country none of them had a smooth path. Wangari Maathai was harassed and beaten while saving Mau Forest but that is why she is the only African Woman with a Nobel price to her name and still a significant figure even after her demise. If Milly Odhiambo never fought back against her male counterparts in parliament she could not be such a determining force.
The day we will have a lady as a university president will be our stepping stone to having a woman President in Kenya. That can be a huge game changer in Kenyan politics. Am talking of the day the SONU chair will be a lady you can imagine the campaign strategies she used to convince UON comrades to vote for her you can also imagine how UON will be run. Not this crazy letters u see of threats to urinate on trees or commit suicide. NONSENCE.
One great thing about us ladies we were blessed with this unique gift of keenness and a caring nature, Ladies we pull society up, if you look at organizations where the girls are Kicking definitely the guys are on game coz they never want to be outdone which is good for all of us and our development. So tell me how Kenya would be if we were run by a female President in a world where the guys are wondering haven’t this ladies done too much.
For this great lady out there who wants to be the face of change for Kenyan politics remember to uphold honesty and integrity Have a strategic manifesto and never forget your Maker a praying Woman has a powerful protector and doer for the wise woman is she who fears the LORD. I believe in u, the power within u is so strong and can be the change we need.
